Copiah County School District officials refused to publish even a reference to Ceara Sturgis, a senior at Wesson Attendance Center, a high school in Mississippi because she is a lesbian. In a joint statement with the ACLU, Sturgis' mother explained they  expected the yearbook to at least contain a reference to her daughter on the senior page. What she discovered on Friday, when the yearbook came in, was that the school had refused to acknowledge her entirely.
